Adi Shankaracharya, was the saint who advocated Advaita Vedanta in India. Apart from various divine texts which he has written, he has also written a most famous text which is known as Sri Shankara Gita, also popularly known as Sri Adi Shankara Gita. In that Gita, he explains about the greatness and teachings of Lord Shiva, his abundant powers and about his name and fame.
Sri Shankara travelled across India to advocate his philosophy through discourses. He is reputed to have founded four Mutts. He is also known as Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
Sri Shankara Gita is similar to the holy text, Srimad Bhagavat Gita, and in this Gita, the great Saint Sri Adi Shankara takes the seat of Lord Krishna and his staunch disciple Sri Padmapadhar, occupies the position of Arjuna.
Some of the excerpts from the holy text, Sri Shankara Gita are as follows:
1. Whatever results you may get, whether it is good or bad, you must have to tolerate it, by considering, that at the appropriate time, I would help you, since I am (Lord Shiva) is everything for you.
2. In order to become a good person, follow Self-control, since without controlling the mind, it is highly impossible to lead your life as a sin free person.
3. Maintain calmness in order to steadily carry out your work.
4. Materialistic things would not give happiness permanently, whereas spiritual things would give endless spiritual pleasures.
5. When there is one good person, definitely there will be a bad person also, you have to intelligently move both with good and bad people, and it all depends on how you believe me fully!
6. Human Desires are always subject to destruction.
7. Respect everybody by considering them as my aspects.
8. Ego results in lot of clashes and enmity, ego is the main cause of problems and ego is the main root cause of creating unhappiness.
9. Don’t do research about my existence, since I exist in all of my creations.
10. Try to understand that your life is purely temporary, and believe that you are only a temporary visitor to this world.
11. Dance cheerfully by uttering my mantra, “OM NAMAH SHIVAYA”.
12. Those who reach my world need not worry about taking birth again and again.
13. It is my habit to test my true devotees, but, finally I would grant them salvation.
14. All the Vedas and Puranas originate only from me, and they act as a divine guide to my devotees.
15. Even the entire worlds may be submerged into the oceans, but, my sayings would never go wrong.
16. Help others, by inculcating them in the “SHIVA BHAKTI PATH”.
17. Let your mouth recite my Shiva Mantra, let your ears hear my divine song, let your hands bow on me, let your legs proceed to my temples and let your body fall at my feet.
18. Keep your mind relaxed by remembering me always in your life.
19. I pray to the Ekadanta who is the beloved son of Lord Shiva, Whose beauty cannot be described by the ordinary humans, and he is the one, who is capable of protecting us from dangers.
20. I meditate on the great Lord Shiva, for whom there is no beginning or end, he is the form of Vedas, and he is the master of the universe.
21. I salute the Lord, who contains five faces, who sits on his beloved Nandi Vahana, who wears snakes as ornaments, who contains matted hair, who has kept Moon and the holy River Ganga on his head and whose beloved consort is Ma Shakti Devi.
22. I meditate on Lord Shiva, who is also called by various other names such as Ishana, Veerabhadra, Eswara, Kala Bhairava, Rudra and many more.
23. I meditate on Lord Shiva, who gives permanent happiness to us, and he is the one, who looks like a Holy Rishi.
24. I salute the lotus feet of Lord Shiva, which is adorned by beautiful and fragrant flower garlands, and he is always worshipped by Devas like Indra, Varuna and Agni, and he is the one who contains unlimited powers.
25. Hey, Mahadeva, Shambasiva, Karunamurthy, you are considered to be the affectionate consort of Ma Shakti Devi, and you are the one who always shows mercy on your devotees,
you are the one, who destroys the worries of your devotees and you are the one, who gives them great pleasantness in their life.
26. Hey Lord Shiva, you are the god of the gods, and you are the first and foremost Rishi, please make me to involve myself to concentrate on you and you only, please take me to your abode after my death, and relieve me from the repeated birth cycles.
27. Hey, Lord Shiva, you are also known as the third-eyed god, you are the one, who had destroyed even the death god Yama, and saved your devotee Markandeya from death, please forgive all of my mistakes, and give me a fresh life.
28. You are the one who is very gentle towards your devotees, and shows them the right path. Your blessings on your devotees are unlimited, and that’s your devotees call you as “KARUNASAGARA”, since you are showing mercy on your devotees like a vast ocean.
29. Oh, My Lord Shiva, you are the one, who wilfully drank the Halahala poison by considering it as the divine nectar, in order to safeguard the entire universe from destruction.
30. Oh Lord Shiva, please consider me as your divine bull, Lord Nandikeswara, and climb on me, consider me as the moon, and keep me on your head, consider me as your serpent and please wear me on your neck, consider me as your servant, and please show me your divine vision.
31. Oh Lord you are the god of the Kailash mountain, you are also the Lord of the Holy City Kasi, and you contain innumerable temples in the holy earth. I am a layman, and I don’t know how to sing your praise, I don’t know how to meditate on you, I don’t know the proper system of worshipping you, however I simply chant your Shiva Mantra, “OM NAMAH SHIVAYA” in order to get immense blessings from you.
