The final conversation between Ravana and Lakshmana is popularly known as ‘RAVANA GITA’, since it throws some light that how much awareness a king should possess during the time of ruling his kingdom.
Ravana as we all know, once was the king of SriLanka, and of course, he ruled his country in a well-versed manner. Apart from his bad habits like lust, greed and anger, however he was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, and his songs on Shiva was very popular till today. When Ravana was about to die in the battle with Rama, he did not converse directly with Rama in their final moments; but instead of that, Rama sent Lakshmana to learn the secrets of statecraft and wisdom from the defeated king. Ravana, recognizing his own failures, advised Lakshmana to never delay auspicious work, never underestimate an enemy, and keep secrets to oneself. Of course, during that time, he has even acted as a Guru to Lakshmana, and conveyed his final messages.
The Lesson in Humility: Initially, Ravana refused to speak to Lakshmana. He only shared his wisdom when Lakshmana stood at his feet, rather than his head, acknowledging him as a master.
1. Don’t delay in completing any auspicious work. Whereas, keep delaying the inauspicious work as much possible.
Do good first, pushing the bad away. This piece of advice is applicable for prioritizing the daily tasks. Doing good for the welfare of all must be of utmost priority. Doing good and expecting no return is really helpful because you will be performing actions without getting attached. Do good and good will follow.
2. Never underestimate your enemy.
Never ever underestimate the strength of your enemy. Applicable in today’s world as: People are not what you think they are. They may not necessarily be what they showcase on the social media. Some people only show what they want to. And if this is the case, you never know what your enemy is hiding behind that smile. Therefore, train hard without any assumptions and be prepared for the surprises- which will in fact wont surprise you when the enemy unleashes the hidden powerful weapon.
3. Never reveal Your SECRETS to anyone.
Gone are the days when trust was as valuable as gold. People change in an instant today and you won’t even realize how the secret you told to your best friend is known to everyone publicly! Therefore, refrain from telling your secrets to absolutely anybody because the one your trust today may destroy you tomorrow. When even just one person knows about your most reserved power, you will be praised only till the person is your friend. The time he becomes a foe, you are in trouble because your opponent now exactly knows your limits and if he/she will plan to fight you, be prepared to lose because you had already opened up about yourself.
These were the 3 secrets told by Ravana to Laxman when he was nearing death. These words can transform lives if applied in real life.
