Sri Rama Rajyotsavam (Sri Ram Rajyabhishek) is the day of Sri Rama Pattabhishekam during when Lord Sri Ram was crowned.

According to Ramayana, Lord Sri Ram was crowned on Chaitra Shukla Panchami, the fifth day in bright half of Chaitra month.

In 2026, Sri Rama Rajyotsavam or Sri Rama Pattabhisheka dinotsavam date is March 23. It is observed as one of the rituals in Sri Rama Navami utsav.

Lord Sri Ram and Goddess Sita are worshipped during Sri Rama Pattabhisheka utsavam. Sri Rama Navami festival is celebrated just 4 days after this Utsav.

It symbolizes the beginning of the ideal rule known as Rama Rajya, representing justice, righteousness, and prosperity.

Story Behind Ram Rajyabhishek

After defeating Ravana in Lanka, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya with:

  • Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman and the Vanara army.

The people of Ayodhya welcomed him with great joy. The coronation ceremony was then performed by the royal priest Vashistha.

Rama was crowned as the king, and Sita became the queen.

What Happened During the Coronation

The Rajyabhishek ceremony included:

  • Sacred bathing (Abhisheka) with holy waters from sacred rivers.

  • Chanting of Vedic mantras by sages and priests.

  • Placing the royal crown on Lord Rama.

  • Blessings from sages and citizens.

Rama Rajya (Ideal Kingdom)

The rule of Lord Rama became famous as Rama Rajya, which represents:

  • Justice and fairness

  • Prosperity and peace

  • Truth and dharma

  • Happiness for all citizens

In Hindu tradition, Rama Rajya is considered the perfect model of governance.

Festival and Worship

Many temples celebrate Rama Pattabhishekam on:

  • Rama Navami (birth of Rama)

  • The last day of Ramayana recitation festivals.

Devotees perform special pujas and read the Yuddha Kanda of the Ramayana describing the coronation.

Spiritual Meaning:
Sri Ram Rajyabhishek teaches that dharma ultimately triumphs over adharma, and righteous leadership brings harmony to society.
