Sri Lalithambigai Temple, Thirumeeyachur near Nannilam in Tamil Nadu

Sri Lalithambigai temple is located at Thirumeeyachur in Nannilam taluk of Tiruvarur district in Tamilnadu. The temple is built by rulers of chola Kingdom who built and renovated many Shiva temples. The presiding deity name is Sri Meganathaswamy and his consort name is Sri Lalithambigai.

The temple is built on five tier raja gopuram with imposing structure. The deity is seated with her right leg folded and left leg in sukhasana posture and seated in Pancha sakthi peedam. The consort has another name called shanthanayagi. The temple is visited by Appar and Sambhandar the Tamil nalvar quartet. Several stories connected with the temple and the following are popular.

This is place where Sun god believed to be got curse cured here and he worshipped the Lord and her consort both seated on the elephant. That is why the vimanam is built on Gajaruda vimana structure.

In the Tamil month of chithirai masam day 21 to 27 the rays of Sun is believed to be falling on the god. This is called Surya pooja and the Sun god has pond named after him.

In this place the famous Lalithasahasranamam is said to written and sung by Agasthiyar who got this from Hayagrivar. Lord Yamadharmaraja is worshipped the main god and her consort in this place.

How to get there?

The place is located near peralam railway station two KMs.
From Mayavaram to Tiruvarur bus route alight at Peralam. Take auto to reach the place.

Those who come by train alight at Mayavaram station and get Mayavaram bus stand. Take the above route to reach the temple.

Now the Mayavaram to Tiruvarur railway track has been opened for passenger traffic from 1st July 2012.The yatris can alight at the station to reach the temple.

The roads are motor able and you can drive down to the temple using the above route. The visiting times of the temple are from 6 am to 1 noon and 4 pm to 9 pm.
