Sabarimala Temple Edavam Masam Pujas in May 2019 will begin on May 14. Lord Ayyappa Temple of Sabarimala will be opened on May 14 for the five-day monthly poojas for the Malayalam month of ‘Idavam’.
Melsanthi will open the Sreekovil of the temple at 5.30 pm in the presence of Thantri. As an ongoing temple practice, no ritual will be conducted at the Sreekovil in the evening.

Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer said special rituals, including ‘Sahasrakalasam’, ‘Laksharchana’ and ‘Kalabhabhishekam’, would be held during the days. As part of ‘Sahasrakalasam’ to be held on May 15, Thantri would conduct ‘kalasa’ pooja at Sopanam near the Sreekovil on May 14 evening.
Kalasabhishekam, marking the conclusion of the ritual, would be held during ‘Uchcha’ pooja on May 15.
In connection with Laksharchana to be held on the first day of ‘Idavam’, the thantri would conduct Brahmakalsa pooja at the Mandapam at 6 am, followed by recital of vedic mantras by scholars.
‘Kalabhabhishekam’ is the other special ritual to be conducted on the day. As part of the ritual, Thantri in the presence of Melsanthi would conduct ‘Kalabhakalasa pooja’ at 10.30 am.
The ritual will conclude with ‘Kalabhabhishekam’ on the idol of the Lord after the procession carrying the Brahmakalasam circumambulates the sanctum sanctorum.
‘Udayasthamana’ pooja, ‘Padi’ pooja and ‘Pushpabhishekam’ are the other rituals to be conducted on all the five days.
The hill shrine will be closed on May 19 evening after ‘Athazha’ pooja and ‘Harivarasanam’.
