The Ramnath Shiv Ghela Temple is situated in a village in Surat, Gujarat, and in this temple, during the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti, live crabs would be offered by the devotees to Lord Shiva, as a part of their prayers.
According to legend, this holy temple was built by Lord Ram himself, and he only introduced the practice of offering crabs to Lord Shiva, and by doing that, devotees believe that they would be relieved from their health related problems, and also they would get good fortunes in their life.
Rama also mentioned that whosoever offers live crabs, and sincerely worships Lord Shiva at the temple will be blessed and their wishes would be granted immediately. Since ancient times, people believe that doing such an act, would give goodness in their life, and still follow the practice.
Along with offering of crabs, devotees also perform special puja and Abhishekham to the Shiva Lingam during the Makara Sankranti Day. After the performance of puja to Lord Shiva, the crabs would be handed over to the temple authorities by the devotees, and the temple authorities would release the crabs in the nearby sea, without causing any harm to these holy creatures.
Let us worship Lord Rama and Lord Shiva and be blessed.
