It is considered as very auspicious as on this day, Magh mela or Magh Mela Snan starts at Allahabad Prayag Triveni Sangam. This is the last day of Poush month as per North Indian calendars while it is the 15th day as per other calendars that are followed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Hindus believe that performing punya snan at Triveni Sangam, Allahabad, or any other location of holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and Brahmaputra is very auspicious and clears off the sins they have committed in their lives.
