No Animal Sacrifices in Temples – High Court orders Orissa Government

Animal sacrifices are usual puja rituals in some trantric temples of backward areas during Navratri Durga Puja and some other festivals. Keeping this on their bench, the High Court ordered Orissa Government to control them. The court also asked the government to direct all district authorities to prevent animal sacrifices in temples. The high court also requested the authorities to bring awareness about animal sacrifices.

The PIL against animal sacrifices was submitted by Maa Bhagbati Sanskar Committee, a Navagarh-based temple reform body. The petitioner informed the court about the hundreds of animal sacrifices during Mahanabami Puja.

No Purana or Hindu scripture mentions to do animal sacrifice in any puja. It is against Sanatana Dharma to take a life to get blessings from the Gods and Goddesses.
