Today, 4 May 2012 is Narasimha Jayanti (Nrusimha Chaturdasi). In some places, it is observed on 5 May 2012. It is believed as the first appearance day of Lord Narasimha Swamy, the half-lion and half-man form of Lord Vishnu. Nrusimha Avatar is the fourth incarnation of Sri Maha Vishnu. The purpose of the avatara was to annihilate demon Hiranyakashipu and thus eradicate the evil from the universe in Satya Yuga.
