Mohini Avatara Seva to Lord Venkateshwara during Brahmotsavam

Mohini Avatara seva which takes place on fifth day of Brahmotsavam in Tirumala Tirupati Venkateshwara Swamy Temple is a unique seva to the Lord. On the fifth day morning, Lord goes around four mada streets decorated in ‘Mohini Avatharam’. In 2018 Navaratri Brahmotsavam, it is performed on October 14.

Lord takes the form of ‘Mohini’, the divine damsel who distributes Amrit (nectar). In this vahana Lord is embodiment of eternal beauty.

Lord is specially decorated on this day with garlands sent by Andal from villiputtur. Andal is an ardent devotee of Lord Srimannarayana. She takes a vow that she will not marry anyone except Lord himself.

Andal wrote Thiruppavai, a highly acclaimed work which is recited during dhanurmasam in all Vaishnavite temples. In Tirumala temple too, it is recited in place of Suprabhatam all through dhanurmasam days.

A unique feature of this day is another procession too of lord passes along side with lord decorated as navaneetha Krishna (Krishna holding butter). This Krishna palanquin moves along side Mohini procession.
