Mariamman also known as Mariamma and she is a Holy goddess of rain and mainly worshipped as a popular deity by the devotees of Tamil Nadu. Mariamman is also associated with Mata Parvati and contains the features of Kali Devi.
Festivals for Mariammam are grandly celebrated in the Tamil month of “Aadi” and “Aavani”, which are known as “Aadi and “Aani Thiruvizha”. She is usually worshipped for curing diseases like poxes, stomach problems and all types of dreaded diseases. She will also relieve us from mental disorders and gives us great strength and energy in order to sustain in our life.
There is a famous Mariamman Temple in Tamil Nadu and it is situated at Valangaiman in Tiruvarur district, and this temple is situated nearby Kumbakonam. Apart from the main shrine of Mariamman, we can also find shrines for Lord Vinayaka, Irulan, Pechiamman and Veeran with his consorts. Utsava deities are also kept in this temple, which would be carried out during the time of temple processions, and nearby this temple, a holy temple tank is also found.
The chief deity present in this temple is known as Valangaiman Mariamman. Though the size of the Temple is small, but the powers of Ma Valangaiman Mariamman are very high, and devotees from all parts of Tamil Nadu used to visit this temple during weekends and also during summer holidays. Special pujas are being performed in this temple during the Tamil month of Aavani( August – September). Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays are considered as festival days to this temple. This temple is opened from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Devotees used to adopt a strange custom of fulfilling by doing ritual with paadai, generally used for carrying the dead body. The consecration ceremony of this temple took place on the year 2020. Recently I have visited this wonderful temple of Mariamman, and I expect the readers also to visit this temple as per their convenience.
