Kandar Alangaram is a collection of divine songs which was written and sung in praise of Lord Murugan by the great Muruga devotee Sri Arunagirinathar. In these beautiful songs, he decorates the body of Lord Muruga with fragrant flowers, golden ornaments and flower garlands. There are more than hundred songs in the Kandar Alangaram text, and it is praised by the ancient Tamil scholars and by the general public.
These songs were composed by Arunagirinathar, after he was saved by Lord Muruga, when he tried to commit suicide in the Tiruvannamalai temple. Lord Murugan saved the life of ArunagiriNathar and also asked him to write divine songs on him.
This book is treated similar to the holy texts like Thevaram and Nalayara Divya Prabandham. It is suggested to sing these wonderful songs on Kanda Shashti day, in order to get the blessings of Lord Muruga and the great Saint Arunagirinathar.
Lord Muruga was formed from the third eye spark of Lord Shiva. He contains supreme powers, and he healed the diseases of his devotees, removed their sins and made them to travel in the spiritual path. Instead of simply worshipping Lord Muruga, we can sing wonderful songs of Lord Muruga from the collection of Muruga’s songs.

Though our fate was already written by the great almighty, based on our true bhakti, god would slightly bend our fate and make us to walk steadily in our life. Arunagirinathar before becoming a saint, had lived like a normal man, and he was attracted with the worldly pleasures, and due to the grace of Lord Muruga, his life was totally changed, and he became a great saint and a poet, and he is considered as one of the best Muruga devotees.
Those who suffer from mental uneasiness and from suicidal thoughts in their mind, are suggested to sing Kandar Alangaram, in order to get happiness, and to get filled up with full of spiritual thoughts in their mind.
By singing songs and by glorifying Lord Muruga, we would get permanent peace of mind, and we would be able to travel in our life without much difficulty.
