When to perform Surya Namaskara?
Like most Yoga asanas, Surya Namaskara is also recommended to perform on an empty stomach, before any intake of food or milk. It is generally performed in the early morning before breakfast or in the evening.
Mantras can be pronounced at the start of each Surya Namaskara. While Pranayama is synchronised with asanas, the Shavasana is practiced at the end of practice for rest.
Bijas or the 12 Mantras specific to the asana is chanted while performing each asana. Most of the performers, meditate the mantras mentally.
Chakras are considered as the points of focus while performing asanas.
There are a total of 8 different asanas in the sequence of the 12 asana changes of Surya namaskara. Some asanas are repeated twice in the same cycle of a Surya Namaskara.
