Sri Gopalakrishna Bhagavathar, was born in the year 1892 to a pious Hindu family, at a village in Tanjore Dist. His birth name was Venkata Gopalakrishnan. After the death of his father, he was brought up by his brother-in-law and he learnt the divine mantras, Telugu and Sanskrit languages from him.
At his teenage, Gopalakrishnan was married to a noble girl, and had children. He studied the life history of great saints, and through that, he also wanted to be like them, and used to chant the names and sung the glory of god.
After a few years of his marriage, he learnt dance and music from a great scholar and as per his advice he used his musical knowledge only for the purpose of spreading spirituality among the people. Some years later, his dutiful wife and his affectionate mother were died.In August 1932, Bhagavatar went to Govindapuram and had the darsan at the Samadhi of Sri Bodendra Swamigal and from then onwards started chanting the names of Lord Krishna, and went to holy pilgrimages and had nice darshan of Lord Panduranga at Pandarpur and Guru Raghavendra at Mantralayam. Through his religious tours, he gained confidence in his mind, and concentrated more attention in worshipping the god.
From his middle age onwards, he travelled to many holy shrines, and began to spread the “KRISHNA BHAKTI” spirit among the people through his melodious music and divine songs on Lord Krishna. He went to the heavenly abode in the year 1971. Sri Bhagavathar is still remembered by his sincere devotees for his great devotion on Lord Krishna, and for his good nature.
Let us worship the great Krishna devotee and be blessed.
