Garjiya Devi temple is located in Garjiya village that comes under the Ramnagar town in the state of Uttrakhand. Hindu devotees offer prayers and rituals to this deity as it is the sacred shrine of Shakti. The temple of this deity is located on the bank of Kosi River. This temple is one of the important temples that Hindu devotees visit under the district of Nainital.

According to the Hindu religious history, in Kartik Month, the eleventh lunar day is also known as Prabodhini Ekadishi which is the brightest night of that month. It is a symbol to the end of four months or Chaturmas when it is believed that Lord Vishnu sleep. As per the beliefs of the people, Lord Vishnu sleeps on Shayani Ekadishi and wakes up on Parbodhini Ekadishi. Because of this reason, it is known by this name.

The meaning of this day is Awakening of Eleventh. It is also known by various other names like Dev Prabodhini Ekadishi, Vishnu Prabodhini, Dev Utthana Ekadishi, and Deothan and through other names as well. When Chaturmas starts, then there is a restriction in Hindu religion for marriages. However, it starts at the end of these four months. This festival is also known as Dev Deepawali which is the festival of lights.

Large number of tourists come here to offer their prayer during the Kartik Poornima, which is a Hindu festival, celebrated on fifteenth lunar day that arrive in the month of Kartik, also known as in the month of November and December. The day is also associated to Guru Nanak Parva, which is a festival related to Sikh religion. The temple of Garjiya devi is located on the rocks of Kosi River and the place is just fourteen kilometers ahead from Ramnagar town. Large number of devotees visits this Shakti shrine during Kartik Month.
