Sant Gajanan Maharaj Palkhi 2026

Sant Gajanan Maharaj Palkhi Sohala 2026, the procession of Sant Gajanan Maharaj Palkhi in 2026..

Mauli! The Sant Gajanan Maharaj Palkhi Sohala is one of the most uniquely disciplined, beautiful, and inspiring foot-pilgrimages (Payi Wari) in Maharashtra. Moving to the rhythmic chants of “Gan Gan Gणात Bote,” hundreds of warkaris travel from Shegaon to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi.

The event stands out for its deep spiritual traditions and incredible organization.

The Hallmark: Absolute Discipline

While other major palkhis (like Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli’s or Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s) are massive gatherings of lakhs of devotees, the Shegaon Sansthan maintains a strict, highly organized format:

  • Fixed Contingent: The Sansthan permits a highly disciplined group of around 700 to 800 warkaris.

  • Uniformity & System: Every warkari walks in a dedicated row, carrying white and saffron flags (patakas). The entire daily schedule—from morning awakenings to the evening Hari Paath and meals—runs like clockwork.

  • No Trash Policy: The warkaris clean their halt locations before moving forward, leaving villages pristine.

The Sacred Route (Shegaon to Pandharpur)

The journey covers roughly 750 kilometers on foot over 33 days, passing through major spiritual hubs across Vidarbha and Marathwada before reaching Western Maharashtra.

The procession features a beautiful silver chariot (Ratha) holding the Padukas (sacred footwear) of Gajanan Maharaj.

Rhythms of the Wari

The atmosphere along the Palkhi route is deeply high-energy and resonant. Villages along the path spend weeks preparing—painting beautiful rangolis on the streets, erecting giant welcome arches, and preparing massive community feasts (Mahaprasad).

The journey is energized by traditional rhythms:

  • The thunderous beats of Veena, Taal, and Mridangam leading the chants.

  • Warkaris performing Bhajans and Bharuds during afternoon breaks.

  • The exhilarating Bhajan Ringan, where warkaris form a large circle and run or dance in absolute ecstasy, completely engrossed in devotion.
