First day of Navratri | Ghatasthapana, Shailputri Puja, Bala Tripurasundari Puja, Mahakali Puja, Brahmi Puja

First day of Navratri is known as Pratipada Navratri Durga Puja. Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana or Kalasha Sthapana. Maha Padyami Navratri puja date in 2019 is April 6 in Vasant Chaitra Navratri and September 29 in Ashwin Navratri.

The Goddess to worship during the first day of Navratri varies from region to region. Navadurga Goddesses, Dasamahavidya Shaktis, and Saptamatrika and Ashtamatrika Goddesses are worshipped in Navratri Puja. As a part of Navadurga Puja, Goddess Shailputri Puja is observed on the first day.

Maha Kali puja is celebrated as part of Dasamahavidya puja and in Saptamtrika worship, Brahmi puja is observed.

Swarna Kavachalankrita Durga Devi is worshipped in Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple.

In North Indian states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, Dasamahavidya and Navadurga are worshipped. In some South Indian temples, Navadurga Goddesses and Saptamatrukas or Ashtamatrukas are worshipped.

For the first day of Navratri 2019, Orange colored dresses or sarees are worn in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
