First day of Navratri is known as Pratipada Navratri Durga Puja. Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana or Kalasha Sthapana. Maha Padyami Navratri puja date in 2020 is October 17 in Ashwin Navratri.

The Goddess to worship during the first day of Navratri varies from region to region. Navadurga Goddesses, Dasamahavidya Shaktis, and Saptamatrika and Ashtamatrika Goddesses are worshipped in Navratri Puja. As a part of Navadurga Puja, Goddess Shailputri Puja is observed on the first day.
Maha Kali puja is celebrated as part of Dasamahavidya puja and in Saptamtrika worship, Brahmi puja is observed.
Swarna Kavachalankrita Durga Devi is worshipped in Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple.
