The Shiva Purana is one of the eighteen Puranas, and it is considered as an important Sanskrit text in Hinduism, which was written by the great sage Sri Veda Vyasa, with the help of his disciple Romaharshana, and it tells about the importance of Lord Shiva and about Mata Parvati.
By reading Shiva Purana, we would know about the greatness of Lord Shiva, his powers, defeating and destroying of demons by him, and about his miracles performed to his devotees. The Shiva Purana invokes the “SHIVA BHAKTI” in the minds of the readers, and through that, they can develop strong faith on Lord Shiva. According to Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva is considered as the creator, protector and the destroyer of the entire universe, and there is no beginning or end for him. In Shiva Purana, bhakti is considered as the main aspect to attain salvation. Anyone who has sincere bhakti on Lord Shiva would be able to attain his lotus feet.
Ancient Nayanmar saints were lived as per the principles of Shaiva Siddhantha, they kept sincere faith on Lord Shiva, and they were ready even to sacrifice their lives for the sake of Lord Shiva.
The Shiva Purana focuses primarily on Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, but refers to and venerates all the gods in Hinduism. The Shiva Purana contains about 24,000 verses and this Purana tastes like the Divine nectar.
The Greatness of Shiva Purana
The Shiva Purana contains the details of Shiva, Hindu mythology, relationships, meditation, Yoga, Holy pilgrimage, devotion, Holy rivers and about the developing the habit of reading or listening to Shiva Purana.
This Purana was first told by Narada to Suta, and from Suta to the great Rishi Saunaka, and later it was again told to Rishi Vedavyasa by Rishi Narada, who has written this Purana in a fantastic manner. As per Shiva Purana, we must have to increase true devotion, and to keep on enjoying by chanting the sacred names of Lord Shiva. Shiva Nama and Shiva Mantra would destroy the fear of death.
For the benefit of the people of the Kali era, Sage Vyasa has composed this wonderful holy text, and he has written it in a simple manner. Those who are considered as pious only would get an opportunity to read this Holy Purana.
This Shiva Purana is the largest Purana and it is considered as equivalent to the Holy Vedas with regard to its spiritual significance. By learning and listening to this Purana, we would be able to lead an honest and a disciplined life.
Just by once listening to the Shiva Purana, we could get the benefit of performing 100 Yagnas. Those who regularly read this Holy Purana, would get the benefit of taking bath in Holy Rivers.
Those who listen to the Purana even only for one hour, their entire sins would be burnt into ashes, and especially at this Kali age, it is very helpful to get rid from the clutches of Kali Purusha, and those who read Purana sincerely, would get all of their wishes fulfilled, and their life would go on smoothly without any hindrances.

One who recites the entire Shiva Purana without leaving any of the seven Samhita can be called PUNYATHMA, the soul which is going to attain liberation.
The Shiva Purana alone destroys the badness present in our souls like lust, greed and anger.
Those who read this Purana by considering it as a holy text would be equivalent to travelling to the holy cities like Ayodhya, Mathur, Haridwar, Varanasi, Kanchipuram, Ujjain and Dwaraka.
If one wishes to attain salvation, then he should read at least one part of the text from the Shiva Purana. One who always listens to the Shiva Purana who fully understands its meaning or simply reads it with undoubted devotion shall be considered as a noble soul. One who loves this Shiva Purana with great devotion would surely attain the abode of Lord Shiva, the Holy Shiva Loka. We should never underestimate the Shiva Purana since it gives permanent happiness for ever in our life.
The sacred Shiva Purana would give us beauty, good health, wealth, love and salvation and it should be recited with full of devotion. The Shiva Purana gives the great eternal spiritual bliss forever.
