On 22 September 2025, at 4 AM Navaratri puja begins with Mangala Vayidyams. Ammavari Suprabhatha Seva begins at 4.30 AM. Ammavari Mahabhishekam, Alankarana, Mangala Harathi, Mantra Pushpam follow the Suprabhatham. Kshetra Puja, Ganapati Puja, Swasthi Punyahavachanam, Ankurarpana, Ruthwik Varanam, Ghata Sthapana, Saptashati Parayanam, Chaturveda Parayanam, Lalitha Sahasranama Parayana, Chatushashti Upachara Puja, Sri Ammavari Moolamantra Japam, Nitya Chandi havanam – Mahanivedana, Maha Mangala Harathi, Maha Mantrapushpam, Tirtha Prasada Vitharana, Suhasini Puja, Kumari Puja are the highlights of Dasara Navaratri Utsavams.
Basara Saraswati Temple is one of the two famous Saraswati temples in India, the other being in Jammu & Kashmir. Saraswati is the Hindu Goddess of knowledge and learning. Children are brought to the temple for the learning ceremony called as Akshara abyasam.
The origin and the history or the legend of Saraswati Temple, Basar, dates back to the period of Sage Veda Vyasa who performed penance at the river banks of Godavari.
Saraswati Puja on Moola Nakshatra in Navratri is highly meritorious. It falls on seventh day in Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month or Ashwayuja masam.
Moola Nakshatra Saraswati Puja is observed with utmost devotion in Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple, Srungeri Sharada Temple, Kollur Mookambika Temple, Basar Saraswati Temple, and many other temples where Durga Navratri celebrated.
