Chukkala Amavasya vratam is auspicious austerity observed on Ashada Amavasya, No Moon day in Ashada masam in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In 2019, Chukkala Amavasya date is August 1.

This vrata is also observed in some places of Karnataka also. Ashada Amavasya vratham is dedicated to Goddess Gauri. Gauri Puja is performed on this day by married women for better health and longer life of their husbands.

Gauri Shodashopachara Puja is observed and Kudumulu are offered as naivedyam to Gauramma (Gauri). 2 sacred threads are worshipped as a part of puja. One ‘Raksha Thoranam’ or ‘Raksha Daaram’ (sacred thread) is worn by the performer of the vratham and remaining thread is tied to another Mutthaiduvu (Suhasini – married woman).
