Chitkul Chamundeshwari Devi Temple is located on the East bank of Manjeera River, a tributary of Godavari River. This temple was established by Sri Ayilavajjhala Venkataramanayya, the founder of Shree Chaamundeshwari Seva Samithi Shaaktamandal.
Shree Chaamundeshwari Seva Samithi Shaaktamandal was started in 1968 and the temple was installed and consecrated on Jan 2, 1983 corresponding to Ananda Nama Samvatsara, Krishna Paksha Saptami in Pushya masam. Thousands of people thronged for the installation ceremony, though it was in the night.
Unlike other temples, Chamundeshwari Devi idol was first installed and then the construction of the temple was started. The idols of Brahmi Devi, Kaali Devi and Vaishnavi Devi are also installed in the temple along with Goddess Chamundeshwari Devi.
