Mata Chintpurni Mela is a very popular Mela held at Chintpurni Mata Temple, in Himachal Pradesh. In 2023, Mata Chintpurni Sawan Mela date is August 24. Shravan Ashtami is the important day in this Mela.
Actually, Chintpurni Mela begins on the first day of Shravan Month Shukla Paksha (17 August 2023) (Shravan Shukla Paksha) and ends on 8th day of Shravan Month (24 August 2023). It is also popular as Shravan Navaratras festival (Sawan Navratri). The Sawan Mela celebrations continue till August 31.
Mata Chintpurni Mela is held thrice in a year – Chaitra Chintpurni Mela (Chet Chintpurni Mela), Sawan Chintpurni Mela and Ashwin Chintpurni Mela (Asanj Chintpurni Mela).
The Chintpurni fair, locally known as ‘Mata Da Mela’ (fair of the mother Goddess) is held in village Chintpurni on a spur of the hill range of the same name, about 3 kms. to the west of Bharwain. The fair is held near the temple of Goddess Bhagwati Chhinmastaka, where, it is said, the mother Goddess appeared in astral form in ancient times. The site is approached by metalled road from Una, Hoshiarpur and Kangra which are situated at a distance of 56, 48 and 64 kms away respectively.
