The arrangements for famous Bonalu festival of Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahakali Temple have started already. In 2020, Secunderabad Bonalu date is July 12, Sunday.

On 9 July 2020, Thursday, procession of Ghatam has been taken out amidst limited number of devotees and temple committee officials. Thousands of devotees throng the temple for Mahakali Darshanam since the devotees will not be allowed into the temple for four days, from Friday (10 July) till Monday (13 July).

According to the the temple committee officials, the Bonalu festival will be a low key celebration this time due to Coronavirus pandemic. Bonalu and all special pujas will be performed inside the temple at the presence of temple committee members, officials and priests and no devotee is allowed inside the temple during four days of celebrations.

On Sunday, 12 July 2020, Maha Aarati is offered to Goddess Mahakali along with Bangaru Bonam (Divine golden pot), Silk Vasthrams and Saaka. Bonam will be taken out on a procession from Mahakaleshwari Sahita Veerabhadra Swamy Temple (sub-temple in Mahakali Temple) and offered to the Goddess. After that, Ghatam is decked with flowers and ornaments and installed in the Garbagriha (Sanctum Sanctorum).

From midnight 12’0 clock to next day morning 5’0 clock, special pujas will be performed at Sri Matangeshwari Temple. On Monday, 13 July 2020, Rangam will be organised from 9.30 AM to 10 AM. The Bonalu festival ends with Gaavu, play of Potharaju and farewell to Goddess Ujjaini Mahakali Devi.
