Babulnath temple is located at the South of Malabar Hill near the end of Marine Drive in the district of Mumbai, in the state of Maharashtra in Western India. It is one of the most ancient temples in Maharashtra and particularly in Mumbai. It is to be largely remembered that in the form of a Babul tree, Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of the Babulnath temple.
This particular temple is situated at an elevation of about 1000 feet above the sea level. It is wonderfully overlooking the Arabian Sea which is just below the Malabar hills. According to the historians and local legends, this particular shrine was successfully was built in 1780.
It is to be highly noted that it is one of the most spacious and landscape filled temple complexes in this city. A tall spire was added in 1900 to the original construction of the temple complex. With festivities and celebration, this temple is always abuzz , mainly on Mondays, because that is the primary day of worship by the devotees and pilgrims.
In Babulnath temple a stone lingam of Lord Shiva is worshipped by the Hindu devotees and pilgrims with great dedication and devotion. Millions of devotees and pilgrims visit the Babulnath temple, in the month of `Shravan` or August/September, that is associated with Lord Shiva in order to offer milk to the `Shivling`. It is to be highly noted that the `Shivling` is strongly believed as per the local legends to be the head of Lord Shiva.
