Ayavantheeswarar Temple, Seeyathamangai, Nagapattinam

Sri Ayavantheeswarar temple is located in the village named Seeyathamangai, in the district of Nagapattinam, in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. The main deity of this temple is Ayavantheeswarar, Brahmapureeswarar (Lord Shiva) and his consorts are none in the temple’s complex.

The holy tree of this temple is none. The holy water of this temple is none. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this place is none.

In this temple the main festivals are Aadi Pooram is celebrated for 10 days with flag hoisting, Wedding Festival and Ambica procession, 10 day Vaikasi Vasanth Usav is conducted, 10 day Brahmmotsavam with a car festival, Shivarathri, deepavali, Panguni uthiram, all the Ekadashi days, Chitra Purnima, Amavasyas, Pongal, Tamil New Year, and Sankranti and on the 9th day in Masi (February-March) drawing a huge crowd of devotees.

Special abishek is performed on selected days as per the Hindu traditional calendar. On all the auspicious days and festive days, temple’s Specialty is Girivalam-cicumambulating the hill takes place. It is to be remembered that to procession deity Peria Nayakar attracts large number of devotees to this temple.

In this temple, huge number of devotees crowd on Shivarathri day to conduct special pujas and rituals as per the ancient rules and regulations. It is one of the most sought after shrine that belongs to the ancient temple category in this region. Devotees and pilgrims from far and near visit this temple with lot of dedication and devotion.
