Ayanavaram Ayaneswari Amman Temple

Ayanavaram is a sacred place and it is located near the famous Kellys and Purasawakkam area. Since Ayan (Brahma) had performed meditation on Ma Shakti Devi at this place, hence, this place was came to be known as Ayanavaram. Once Lord Shiva had taken the form of Lord Kalabhairava and chopped one of the heads of Lord Brahma in order to remove his ego. Due to that, Lord Brahma has lost his creative powers, and he also suffered from severe pain on his head, hence, he approached his father Lord Vishnu in order to get a permanent solution for his problems.

As per the advice of Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma went to the present place of Ayanavaram also called as Ayanpuram, and performed rigorous meditation on Ma Shakti Devi. In course of time, Ma Shakti Devi appeared before Lord Brahma, and granted various boons to him. Due to that, Lord Brahma had regained his creative powers, and also his head pain was relieved. Since Ma Shakti Devi appeared before Ayan (Lord Brahma), she was came to be known as “MA AYANESWARI AMMAN”. As a token of showing his gratitude, Lord Brahma had constructed a temple for Ma Ayaneswari with the help of the divine architect Lord Viswakarma, before several thousands of years ago, but in course of time, this wonderful Ma Ayaneswari Amman Temple was demolished by few miscreants.

Still now most of the devotees are not aware of the name ‘AYANESWARI’, and I got this rare information from a temple priest at Ayanavaram before few years ago. Since Ma Ayaneswari had even changed the fate of the fate god Brahma, it is highly recommended to worship her, by chanting her simple and sweet Mantra, “OM MA AYANESWARIYE NAMAHA”. We can also call the divine mother Ayaneswari as Ayanasundari, Ayanasoundari, Ayanambigai, Ayanambal and Ayanarakshambigai.

I have been born and brought up in Ayanavaram area during the year 1972, and up to the year 2010, I was living in the pious place Ayanavaram only, the place where Lord Brahma was once visited and meditated.
