Ancient Ganesh idol in Avancha Mahabubnagar

Nearly 1000 years old Ganesha idol at Avancha village (Thimmagjipet mandal) in Mahbubnagar district in Telangana is lying in a neglected state since hundreds of years. The Vinayaka idol, also known as ‘Gundu Ganapathi’ is believed to be carved out around 1140 AD by a Western Chalukya King called ‘Thylapudu’.

As it has the history of nearly thousand years, it is the duty of Department of Archaeology to initiate measures to protect the rock Ganesha idol.

On Vinayaka Chavithi (Ganesh Chaturthi) only, devotees throng Gundu Ganapati and offer some pujas. Otherwise there will be no one to light a single lamp at the giant Ganesh idol. The idol is of 30-foot height and 24-foot width.
