The temple management of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams is set to observe annual fete in the famous temple of Goddess Avanakshamma who is also popularly known as Amnakshi Amma, located in Narayanavanam in Chittor district from August 21 to September 7 in a grand manner.
This temple is under the management of TTD since 1967. TTD has organised ‘Jeernodharana Maha Kumbhabhishekam on August 14 in 2014.
Legend: It is believed that the demon ‘Somakudu’ stolen ‘The Vedas’ from the Lord Brahma. Goddess Paravathi Devi killed the demon and returned the Vedas to Lord Brahma. The Goddess has appeared as ‘Kalika Matha’ while killing the demon. In a thanks giving feature, Lord Brahma installed the small idol of Goddess and named as ‘Amnayakshi(Amna means Vedas and Sakshi means Eyes).
Later, Sage Agasthyawas installed a huge replica idol of the Goddess Amnayakshi. King Akasha Raja(Father of Goddess Padmavathi Devi) worshipped the Goddess and constructed a temple for the Goddess. Sri Padmavthi Devi offered prayers before her marriage with Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
She performed ‘Gowri Pooja’ and ‘Rudraabhishekam’ in this temple. It was described in ‘PADMAVATHI PARINAYAM’ that Goddess Padmavathi devi and the Lord worshipped the Goddess ‘Avanakshamma’ before going to Tirumala Temple after their marriage.
