To solve all women’s Gynae problems (health problems) over the year, the ‘Ambubachi Mela’ of North East India has taken the form of a Khumba Mela. Traditionally the Kamakhya temple has been one of the most sacred Shakti shrines of India. This is the place where Goddess Sati yoni or vagina fallen down and made the Kamakhya as the Goddess of sexual desires and tantric worship.
Every year during the month of June, for a period of 3 days, the presiding Goddess goes through her annual period of menstrual cycle which renders her unclean for that period. In 2017, Ambubachi Mela begins on June 22 and ends on June 25. During these 3 days period, the temple doors are closed. A small stream which flows from the temple becomes red, signifying the blood flowing out from the Goddess.
A visit to the Kamakhya temple during this period will solve all the gynec problems of any nature. On the 4th day, the temple gates will open, after performing the sanctifying ritual-bath and poojas to restore the purity.
