Majority of devotees who throng Tirumala to have darshan of Lord Venkateswara, feel it mandatory to offer their hair as a sign of total surrender towards Lord, said, Kalyanakatta DyEO Smt Nagaratna.
During the media briefing at Rambhageecha Rest House 2 on Thursday, the DyEO said, there are nine Kalyanakattas in Tirumala including main Kalyana Katta Complex(KKC). Among them, the main, PAC1 and 2, SPRH and SVRH KKCs work round the clock while the Nandakam and GNC mini KKCs work from 3am to 5pm, HVC and Sapthagiri KKCs between 6am and 6pm.
There are a total of 1,397 barbers working in KKCs which includes 279 women tonsurers also involved in the tonsuring activity and we use all hygienic methods. We are supplying qualitative blades, dettol antiseptic lotion, sandal pills and masks to the barbers to avoid any infectious diseases to both barbers and pilgrims, she added.
The KKC Head said, so far from September 13 to 19, in the last seven days,1,89,826 pilgrims offered hairs during brahmotsavams.
