11 September 2011, Anant Chaturdashi, Ananta Vrata

Today, 11 September 2011 is Anant Chaturdashi or Ananta Vratam. It is dedicated to Lord Ananta Padmanabha Swamy, reclining form of Sri Maha Vishnu. Anant Chaturdasi falls on Shukla Paksha Chaturdasi in Bhadrapad month. As the word ‘Ananta’ means ‘endless & boundless’, the merits of this vratam are enormous.

Anant Chaturdasi Ananta Vrat is observed for 14 consecutive years and during the last year Udyapan is performed. The married couple observe this vratham for marital bliss, happiness & prosperity.

On Anant Chaturdashi day, Ganpati Visarjan (Ganapathi Nimajjanam) is also performed. 10-day Ganesh festival concludes on this day.
