Bheemana Amavasya (Bhima Amavasya or Jyoti Bheemeswara Vrata / Pathi Sanjivani Puja) is observed on Ashada Amavasy in Karnataka. In 2012, Bheemana Amavasya date is July 19, Thursday. Married women perform the vrata for better health and longer life of their husband. Women worship the divine couple, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, on this Amavasy day.
Bhimana Amavasya Vrata katha or legend of Bhimana Amavasya is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. Thambittu Deepa or Thembittu Deepam and Bhandara Hodiyuvudhu are the main aspects of Bhima Amavasya vrata which is also referred to as Jyothir Bhimeshwara Vrata or Pathi Sanjivani vrata.
Pathi Sanjivini Vrata and Bheemana Amavasya Vrata is also observed as Divasi Gowri Vrata.
