Varalakshmi Vratham in Visakhapatnam Temples (Vizag) is a great celebration. In 2019, it is being performed on August 9, the second Friday (Shravana Shukravaram) in Shravana Masam.

It is performed to the decorated idol of Goddess Varalakshmi, the giver of boons, for health and prosperity. Women woke up early in the morning in the Brahmi Muhurtham to perform the puja. Crossing its homebound character, the festival acquired an occasion to celebrate with shops and business establishments also decked up.

‘Perantams,’ or gatherings of women in the evenings, mark the conclusion of the Varalakshmi Vratham celebrations.

Temples witness a steady stream of devotees throughout the day. Women who generally worship goddesses on Friday make it a point to visit temples.

Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Temple in Visakhapatnam is organised several special pujas on this day. ‘Ksheerabhishekam,’ mass ‘kumkuma’ puja’, recitation of Lalita and Vishnu sahasranamams, Sri Mahishasura Mardini stotram and the ‘stuti’ of Sri Kanakamahalakshmi are performed.

Vizag Kanakamahalakshmi Temple, the biggest Temple in the North Coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, is decked up with deepams and lights on this day. Various special pujas are performed on this day along with the mass Varalakshmi Vratham.
