Inviting Surya Bhagavan to our Home on Sundays

Surya Bhagwan

Surya Bhagwan

We can call Lord Surya Bhagavan to our homes on Sundays, and we must have to perform puja to him, especially on Sundays, in order to get rid from our problems. People can offer their worship to the sun god, irrespective of their caste, creed, gender and religion, since he gives light to everybody in the earth, without any partiality. Without the bright light of the sun, the entire world would collapse.

Due to his selfless service, all the living beings in the earth are able to discharge their day to day duties without any hindrance. Sun god also gives food and water to us, and he is considered as the god of agriculture. Pongal festival is celebrated grandly by the people in India, in order to show their gratitude to Lord Surya. Lord Surya exists for several millions of years, and he is mentioned in the Vedas, Shastras, Puranas and in other holy texts of Hinduism.

During Sundays, we can keep a picture of the Sun god in our puja room, and we can prepare the holy Prasad items made out of jaggery, and offer it to him. We can also chant various slokas of the Sun God, like Aditya Hrudayam, or otherwise we can chant his mantra, “OM SRI SURYA BHAGAVANE NAMAHA”, in order to get all kinds of prosperity in our lives.

Lord Surya is worshipped even by the great sages and also by the demigods in the heaven. Even the divine avatars, Rama and Krishna worshipped him wholeheartedly. Surya heals our diseases, and cleanse our mind. Bad thoughts and unknown fear would vanish from our mind, if we continuously worship Lord Surya Bhagavan. While performing Yagnas, a portion of oblation from the fire sacrifices would be granted to Lord Surya.

In some pictures, Lord Surya would be portrayed as Lord Vishnu. He would be having Chanku and Chakra in his hands, and he is also called as Lord Surya Narayana.
