Soundarya Lahari Stotra

The Saundarya Lahari Stotra is written in Sanskrit in praise of Mata Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva, and it is written in a simple manner. She is highly praised in this Stotra, her beauty, supreme powers, kindness, holiness and her various names is also mentioned in this holy text. This beautiful work was made by Sri AdiShankara, after getting the blessings of the first god Lord Vinayaka.

As per the legend, it is believed that, as per the instructions of Lord Vinayaka, AdiShankara had written this stotra. AdiShankara considers Mata Parvati as a sweet, divine and worshipful mother goddess, and according to him, she is the one who gives all kinds of prosperity to us, and without her union, Lord Shiva cannot function independently and she forms part and parcel of Lord Shiva.

AdiShankara describes various forms of Parvati Devi in this Stotra. She has taken various incarnations in order to establish divinity and prosperity in this earth. She has incarnated as Mata Renuka Parameswari, mother of Lord Parasurama, Draupati wife of the Pandavas, Vasuki wife of Thiruvalluvar and Kannaki wife of Kovalan etc.AdiShankara describes Mata Shakti Devi as Jaganmata, the universal mother, and he prays to the holy mother on our behalf. He asked us to develop bhakti on Shiva and Shakti, and to worship them at their holy temples, in order to run our life easily and smoothly.

Saundarya Lahari was translated into various other languages due to its significance, and devotees used to recite this stotra, since ancient times, and due to that, they obtained all kinds of prosperity in their life. This stotra would be recited by the devotees in the temples, and it is a must for the Hindus, to keep a Soundarya Lahari Stotra book in their puja room, and to recite it especially during Tuesdays, Fridays and on Navaratri festival days, in order to get good fortunes in their life.
