Saptapuri Amavasya is observed on Bhadrapada Amavasya (No Moon in Bhadrapada Month). In 2020, Saptapuri Amavasya date is September 6.
It is observed mainly in Puri Jagannath Temple. Huge quantities of sweets known as Saptapuri Tada are offered to the deities.
The legend of Saptapuri Amavasya is associated with Alam Chandi Temple. Lord Jagannath sends sweet recipe called ‘Saptapuri Tada’ to ‘Alam Chandi’ as an offering. Lord Jagannath Special pujas are offered to Lord Jagannath on Saptapuri Amavasya day.
Jagannath Rathayatra and Dev Snana Purnima are the famous festivals of Puri Jagannath Temple.
