Rudra Vrata

Rudra Vrata is an auspicious vrata yet a rare vrata. This Vrata is observed in Jyeshta Month of Hindu Calendar.

Rudra Vrat falls on Ashtami and Chaturdashi of both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha of Jyeshta Maas. Shri Rudra Devta (Lord Shiva) is worshipped during this Vrata.

Fasting is an important aspect of Rudra Vrata. On the last day of this vrata, Golden cow or a cow made of Til (sesame) is offered to a Brahmin.

According to some other sources, Rudra Vrata is also observed as a year-long Vrata, starting on Shukla Tritiya in Kartik Month. In this, Gomutra Sevan and Eka-bhuktam (one time meal a day) are important aspects. On the last day of this vrata, Golden cow or a cow made of Til (sesame) is offered to a Brahmin.

Merits or Vrata Phala of Rudra Vrata are – health, wealth, prosperity and Shivaloka Prapti.

Rudra Vrata is mentioned in Padma Purana and Matsya Purana.
