Tulsi Vivah (Tulsi Shaligram Vivah) is the most observed ritual of Kartik Purnima. Devotees perform the celestial marriage of Tulsi plant (Goddess Lakshmi) with Amla Tree (Lord Vishnu). Kartik Purnima also marks the end of Bhishma Panchak Vrat which has begun on Prabhodini Ekadasi (Dev Utthana Ekadasi).
As per a legend, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Matsya Avatara on Kartik Purnima to protect Manu, the first man, from Maha Pralay (deluge).
Bhakteshwara Vratham is observed in Andhra Pradesh on Kartika Pournami. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
