Pancharatrotsav is a five-day vrata observed during Navratri Poojan. In 2025, Pancharatrotsava in Navratri begins on September 27 and ends on October 1.
Usually, it begins on Lalitha Panchami and ends with Saraswati Balidan or visarjan on Mahanavami day. Lalitha Panchami, Durga Sashti, Durga Saptami, Durga Ashtami and Mahanavami are the days of this Navratri Puja method.
The same rituals of Navratri are followed during Pancharatrotsava Vrata. Kalasha Sthapana is performed before starting the puja on first day (5th day of Navratri) and Kalasha will be moved after the completion of Puja on fifth day (9th day of Navratri). Those who are unable to perform the Navratri Puja for nine days, would prefer Pancharatri Vrata observance.

Meaning of Pancharatrotsava
-
Pancharatrotsava literally means “five nights festival”.
-
It involves systematically performing Navratri pooja, fasting, and other rituals over five days rather than nine.
-
This practice is especially common among families or devotees who cannot manage the entire nine-day celebration due to practical constraints or personal reasons.
Religious Significance
-
Hindu texts acknowledge the merit of Pancharatrotsava, assuring that the benefit of devotion is retained when Navratri is celebrated for five nights instead of nine.
-
During Pancharatrotsava, devotees perform all key rituals of Navratri, including invocation of Goddess Durga, daily worship of her various forms, and the conclusion with Vijayadashami.
-
It provides a way for householders and devotees with limited time to participate in the spiritual upliftment associated with Navratri.
Ritual Details
-
The main structure of daily worship—lighting lamps, singing bhajans, chanting Navratri mantras—remains the same as the full festival, only condensed to five days.
-
The choice of which five days are observed typically starts from the first day of Navratri and ends on the fifth day, although some traditions may observe it during the last five days.
-
On Vijayadashami, symbolic acts like immersing the Kalash or performing final prayers conclude the festival.
