17 October 2025 is Nandini Vrat. It is observed on Krishna Paksha Dwadashi in Kartik Month as per North Indian Hindi calendars and it coincides with Ashwin Month according to Marathi, Telugu, Kannada & Gujarati calendars.
The legend and the significance of Govatsa Dwadasi vrata are mentioned in the Bhavishya Purana. This vrat katha is associated with Nandini, the divine cow, and her calf. During the puja, pictures or idols of Nadini and her calf are worshipped.
Devotees offer sprouted moon and gram to the divine cow, Nandhini. People avoid drinking milk and other milk products on this day.
Govatsa Dwadasi is observed as Guru Dwadasi in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and some parts of Gujarat. On this day, Sripada Vallabha Aradhana Utsav are held at Pithapuram Datta Mahasamsthan in Andhra Pradesh.
In Gujarat, Govatsa Dwadasi day is observed as Vagh Baras or Wagh Baaras. Vasubaras is the name for this vrat in Maharashtra.
