Manjira river, a tributary of the river Godavari, flows in Medak and Nizamabad districts of Andhra Pradesh. Manjeera Pushkaralu in 2011 will be held from 8 May to 19 May. The main site for Pushkarams is Peruru village in Papannapet mandal of Medak district.
The 12-day Pushkaralu will coincide with Ganga Pushkarams that will be held all over the holy places where the river Ganga flows in North India such as Varanasi (Kashi), Allahabad (Triveni Sangam Prayag), Haridwar, Rishikesh, etc.
Devotees can also perform Manjira Pushkara snanams at Chitkul Chamundeshwari Temple near Jogipet in Medak district, and some other places in Nizamabad district.
According to a legend of Puranas, ‘Sarpayagam’ had been organized at Peruru village which is a good place for holy dip during Manjeera Pushkaraalu.
