Inviting Newly married Daughter and son in law to home on Diwali festival and offer gifts and jewellery is an age old practice and ritual in Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. And this tradition has been practiced in almost all South Indian states such as Karnataka, parts of Maharashtra, parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In 2024, Diwali festival date is October 31 – November 1.
In 2022, there was an obstacle for this tradition as this Diwali falls during Moodami (Graha Astha). And there was a Partial Solar Eclipse (Pakshika Surya Grahanam) also on Diwali Amavasya (25 October 2022).
Due to the above two reasons, it was suggested to not invite the daughter and son in law couple to maternal home and offer gifts. But this year there is no obstacle according to planetary positions and astrological events.
This tradition goes on like the newly married are invited to maternal home of the daughter by her parents once in 5 years and offered new clothes, gifts such as jewelry etc.
