Ganga Saptami or Ganga Jayanti, also known as Jahnu Saptami, is an auspicious day to worship Goddess Ganga (River Ganga). In 2023, Ganga Saptami or Ganga Jayanti date is April 26.

It is celebrated on Vaisakh Shukla Saptami, 7th day in bright fortnight in Baisakh month or Vaishakh month. The legend of Ganga Saptami or Ganga Jayanthi is mentioned in the Brahma Purana. On this day Goddess Ganga (Ganga River) descended on to the Earth in the Himalayas from her adobe.

In Haridwar, Rishikesh, Triveni Sangam in Allahabad, and all other holy places where River Ganga flows, special pujas are performed by devotees. Devotees float garlands across the river and worship Goddess Ganga with popular ‘Ganga Aarti’.
