Chithirai Onam (Thiruonam Nakshatra day in Chithirai Masam) is one of the popular festivals / Utsavams celebrated at Chidambaram Thillai Nataraja Swamy Temple.

In 2021, Chithirai Onam Mahabhishekam date is May 3, Monday. Due to Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19), no devotees are allowed inside the temple for Darshanam.

Six Mahabhishekas at Chidambaram Nataraja Swamy Temple are the famous festivals / utsavams held at Chidamabaram Thillai Natarajaswamy Temple.

Chidambaram is one of the five holiest Shiva temples, each representing one of the five natural elements; Chidambaram represents akasha (aether). The other four temples in this category are: Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswara, Trichy (water), Kanchi Ekambareswara (earth) Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswara (fire), Thiruvanna malai and Kalahasti Nathar (wind), Sri Kalahasti.

The six Mahabhishekas of Chidambaram Temple are – Chithirai Onam, Aani Thirumanjanam, Aavani Chaturdashi, Purattasi Chaturdashi, Aardhraa Abhishekam during Arudra Darisanam and Maasi Chaturdashi.
