Chaiti Chhath 2026 | Chath Puja in Chaitra Month

Chaithi Chhath is observed during Chaitra month just after Nav Varsh in Bihar, Jharkhand, and some other North Central regions of India. This festival is celebrated for 4 days similar to that of Chhath Puja in Kartik month.

Chaiti Chhath 2026 dates – 22 March, 23 March, 24 March and 25 March 2026.

The first day of Chaiti Chhath is Nahakha Chhath, the second day is Kharna Chhath, the third day is main Chaiti Chhath, and the concluding day is Paran Chhath Puja.

Sunday, 22 March 2026 – Nahai Khai, Shukla Paksha Chaturthi

Monday, 23 March 2026 – Kharna (Lohanda), Panchami

Tuesday, 24 March 2026 – Shaam Ka Arghya (Sandhya Arghya), Shashti

Wednesday, 25 March 2026 – Pratah Kaal Arghya, Paaran – Saptami

22 March 2026 – नहाय – खाई

23 March 2026 – खरना | लोहंडा

24 March 2026 – संध्या अर्घ्य (डूबते हुए सूर्य को अर्घ्य)

25 March 2026 – प्रातः काल का अर्घ्य, पारण (उगते हुए सूर्य को अर्घ्य)

The major Chhath Puja is celebrated in Kartik month, just after Diwali festival.

🌊 Four-Day Ritual Process

🥣 Day 1 – Nahay Khay

• Devotee takes a holy bath (river or home)

• Eats a single pure vegetarian meal

🌾 Day 2 – Kharna

• Whole-day fast without water

• Evening offering of jaggery kheer and chapati

• Prasad is shared

🌅 Day 3 – Sandhya Arghya

• Fasting without water (Nirjala)

• Offerings made to the setting Sun

• Devotees stand in water and offer arghya

🌄 Day 4 – Usha Arghya

• Offerings made to the rising Sun

• Fast is broken after sunrise

🌿 Spiritual Significance

• Gratitude to Sun for sustaining life

• Prayer for:

  • Good health

  • Children’s well-being

  • Family prosperity

• Symbolizes purity, discipline, and devotion

Unlike many festivals, no idol worship is involved — only nature worship (Sun and water).
