Bonalu now Telangana State Festival

Bonalu now Telangana State Festival. In 2014, Bonalu begins on June 30 and ends on July 20. Government of Telangana has declared the Ashada Jatara, popular as ‘Bonalu’ a State festival. The same is celebrated during ‘Ashada Masam’ in nearly 115 temples across the twin cities, including the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, Secunderabad for several decades.

On Thursday, Principal Secretary-Endowments B. Venkateswara Rao issued a GO asking Commissioner-Endowments and other related departments to ensure all arrangements were made, including supply of drinking water, sanitation and electricity.

Meanwhile, the Telangana division of the Andhra Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation has announced special, one-day Bonalu tours on June 29, July 13 & 20 in the twin cities. On June 29, the one-day tour will start from Yatri Niwas at 10 a.m., and after picking up tourists at Tourism Plaza and Tank Bund, taken to Mahankali temples in Secunderabad, Karwan and Lal Darwaza. After a non-vegetarian lunch break at Taramati Baradari Cultural Complex, they will be taken to the temple at Golconda Fort and dropped back at 8 p.m..

On July 13, tourists will be taken to the temples at Karwan, Lal Darwaza and Golconda and after lunch at the Haritha Coffee Shop they will be taken to the festival at the Secunderabad temple. On July 20, tourists will visit Secunderabad and Golconda Fort temples and break for lunch at Taramati Baradari. Later, they will be taken to see the Bonalu festivities at Karwan and Lal Darwaza temples, said a press release.
