Today, 21 February 2013 is Bhishma Ekadashi, Jaya Ekadashi, Bhaumi Ekadashi Vrat, Vishnu Sahasranama Jayanti, Bhishma Panchaka Vrata Arambh, Bhaimi Ekadasi. It falls on Shukla Paksha Ekadashi in Magha Month as per all Hindu calendars (Amavasyant and Purnimant Panchangams).

It is also significant as it falls on Thursday (Guruvara Ekadashi Vrata). Ekadasi begins at 8.38 PM on 20 February and ends at 10.49 PM on 21 February.

Bhishma Ekadasi is also referred to as Vishnu Sahasranama Jayanti and it marks the beginning of Bhishma Panchaka Vrata. Bhishma Panchaka is a five-day vrata dedicated to Bhishma and Lord Vishnu. It concludes on Magha Purnima day. It is also observed in Kartik Month.

Bhishma Ekadashi is celebrated with utmost pomp in Antarvedi Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh. It is popularly celebrated as ‘Antarvedi Theertham’.
