Bhavani Deeksha, also known as Durga Bhavani Diksha or Mala, is a Deeksha or vrata dedicated to Goddess Kanakadurga of Vijayawada. Bhavani Deeksha begins on Kartika Pournami or on Utthana Ekadashi days in Kartika masam. In 2017, Bhavani Deeksha dharana date is 31 October, 1 November, 2 November, 3 November and 4 November.
Bhavani Deeksha is observed for 41 days or 21 days and concludes based on the muhurtham or auspicious day or the day on which standard mandala or ardha mandala deeskha is completed.
In 2017, Bhavani Deeksha Viramana or udwasana or visarjana begins on 10 December and ends on 14 December. Some devotees observed deeksha from Kartika Pournami to Makara Sankranthi.
Bhavani Deeksha dhari is known as ‘Bhavani’. The dress code followed is – red coloured shirt and pant or dhoti and a pancha (shawl type cloth on shoulders). The niyamas or rules set are same as all other deekshas like Ayyappa Desskha and Hanuman Deeksha.
