Amavasya, 22 March 2012

Today, 22 March 2012 is Amavasya (No Moon day). It is Phalgun Amavasya in Telugu, Kannada, Marathi & Gujarati calendars and is Chaitra Amavasya in North Indian Hindi calendars. It is the last and final Amavasya in this Khara naam Hindu Year. It marks the end of Shaka Samvatsar 1933 & Vikram Samvat 2068 year.

Amavasya has begun at 6.39 PM on 21 March and ends at 8.07 PM today. This Amavasya is known as Snandaan Amavasya, Shraddh Ki Amavasya & Kottha Amavasya.

The following day of this Amavasya is the Hindu New Year for all people who follow lunar Hindu calendar (Amavasyant & Purnimant). Telugu & Kannada people celebrate it as Ugadi, Marathi people as Gudi Padwa, Kashmiri people as Navreh & other North Indian people as Nav Varsh.
