Amarnath Yatra begins today, 25 June 2012, from Jammu base camp. Around 10,000 pilgrims reached the north Kashmir Baltal base camp in the morning, while around 2,000 pilgrims were at the traditional and longer Pahalgam route.
Amarnath Shiva Temple is located at a cave on 13,500 meter-high mountainous area in South Kashmir Himalayas. Throughout the journey, devotees offer prayers and chant the slogans like “Bum Bum Bolay” and “Bolaynath Ki Jai”.
Till date, more than 3.5 lakh devotees have been registered for Amarnath Yatra in 2012 at various centers and online counters across India. Amarnath yatra will conclude on August 2 (Shravan Purnima, Full Moon in Shravan Month). Amarnath Yatra 2012 (37-day Yatra) is the shortest in last five years.
